Superyacht launch: 182.9m Expedition yacht REV Ocean is now officially the largest in the world
The wait is over: the 182.9m mega yacht REV Ocean has hit the water in Romania, and is now officially the largest superyacht in the world. Once delivered she will also become the largest charter yacht on the market undertaking research expeditions around the world.
REV Ocean is a Research Expedition Vessel with a gross tonnage of 17,440GT and accommodation for up to 36 guests and 54 crew or 60 scientists and 30 crew members during expedition voyages. She was designed by famous Espen Oeino and build at VARD Shipyard, while the world-renowned design studio H2 Yacht Design created the interior.
In the next few weeks REV Ocean will be transported to via the Black Sea, then Istanbul and through Mediterranean straight to Braatvag in Norway for the final stage of construction.
The REV Ocean project aims to make a positive change in developing innovative solutions, bridge science and policy sectors. “One Healthy Ocean” – is the core goal of the whole organisation. Through solution-oriented research, some of the global problems, such as CO2 emission, plastic pollution and unsustainable fishing.
Some of the yacht’s outstanding features include sonar systems, submersibles, ROV with a 6000-metre depth capacity, state-of-the-art communication equipment and scientific trawls. Alike luxury mega yachts, this enormous vessel boasts several fantastic amenities, such as cinema, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, and areas for dining and relaxation. The considerable spaces onboard also include laboratories, auditorium and classrooms.
The power comes from four Wärtsilä 8L26 2.7 MW engines which provide a total speed of 17.8 knots. At the cruising speed of 11 knots, the yacht has a spectacular range of 21,120 nautical miles.
The delivery of REV Ocean is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
