Introducing the 27-metre sailing yacht ‘Tripp 90’ collaboration from YY Yachts, Tripp Design and Winch Design
October 16, 2019
German shipyard YY Yachts is producing a 27.4m/89.9ft carbon composite sailing yacht known as the TRIPP 90 that features the collaborative talents of Tripp Design for naval architecture and exterior styling, and Winch Design for her interiors.
The TRIPP 90 sailing yacht was commissioned by an American client who wanted performance and comfort for participating in world-class regattas and for long-distance cruising the world over.
Further customisation for the Owner altered the deckhouse design so that those on board could sit in the salon and take in the sweeping sea views. As a result, glass is an integral part of the surrounding deck house design and produces a living space that is flooded in natural light.
To produce a shallow draft and provide excellent responsiveness, the rig, hull and inner structure have all been made out of carbon. The sail plan covers 408m²/4391.7ft² and is designed for all halyards and sheets to be operated from the steering columns. This efficient system means that the TRIPP 90 can be operated with a minimal crew.
The interior decor from Winch Design has a minimalist appearance that takes influence from Scandinavia and the United States eastern seaboard. Light oak wood and leather produce chic surroundings in an open-plan layout for plenty of natural light throughout, using a beam of 6.8m/22.3ft for large living spaces and accommodation.
Tripp Design has previously worked with YY Yachts and this is their second collaboration, while this marks the third project for the American architect done in conjunction with Winch Design.
The luxury sloop TRIPP 90 is currently being built at the shipyard in Greifswald with completion expected in late 2020.
